The expectations from this small budgeted movie resting on the broad shoulders of Naseeruddin Shah supported by a cast of unknowns were not high. Sooraj Barjatya had already given India a double dose of his wedding centered sugar coated extravaganzas “Hum Aapke Hai Koun” and “Hum Saath Saath Hain” with the star power of Salman, Madhuri, Saif and others. Mira Nair returned to India with the script of her next movie and “Monsoon Wedding” was born.
